This Sunday we enter into the Advent Season, which is the season of the year (consisting of four Sundays) leading up to Christmas. The Advent season is both a commemoration of Christ's first coming and an anticipation of His second coming. As the people of Israel longed for their Messiah to come, so we as Christians long for our Savior to come.
You will notice that the platform on Sunday morning, as the weeks go by, will be increasingly adorned by various decorations. Included in that will be the Advent candles, with the first one being lit this Sunday, two the next Sunday, and so forth.
Advent can be a great way to prepare for celebrating what the Christmas season is really all about, which is the act of God coming into this world as a human child to live among us and ultimately to die for us. We are also reminded that we live in the Advent of Christ's second coming, when He will come in power and great glory!
